Clothes Line (Pictures to Come)
-Each year I have students create a paper t-shirt with pictures drawn of some of their favorite things they did over the some. Once our t-shirts are finished we share our shirts and then diplay them on a clothesline in the front of the room. This works for a great ice breaker and diplays some of the students work on the first day of class. Kids love it!
Shoe Story
-On the first day of class I always try to get a sample of writing from each of my students. A fun activity I find students enjoy is tracing their shoe. This can be done from the side or top. They then decorate their show tracing to look just like their shoe. The last thing they do is write a story from their shoes perspective about the first day of school. This becomes homework, but is generally a fun assignment for the first few days. Students are always entertained learning about the first day of school from a shoe's perspective!
Birthday Fun!
-I give each student a picture of a cupcake with candles on it. Students then get a chance to break out those brand new crayons or markers and decorate a birthday cupcake. I collect them all and place them in order according to the school calendar. They are then kept next to our calendar pieces and added to the board for their birthday.
